Africa is a continent rich in manpower, resources and culture. As blessed as the continent is, only a few benefit. Many are not able to get a decent education. A decent education is usually a privilege reserved for the middle and upper class and as such, a large number of people remain in poverty bracket. The Africa Welsh News (AWN) logo is a Welsh dragon holding onto the African continent. Wales has always supported African countries in many ways. One of this is by programs and events championed by the Welsh government through third sector organisations. AWN aims to play its part in reducing poverty and helping to educate and empower the less privileged.
About Africa Welsh News CIC
Africa Welsh News CIC (AWN) started on the premise of being a source of Information and News for and to Africans in Wales. The company will work with other community organisations and local institutions in disseminating information and news to the relevant community. The company will start with providing both local and international News and Information on its website, africawelshnews.com. There are plans to expand to radio and eventually print media.
The Chief Executive
What brought about the idea of setting up Africa Welsh News is simply to provide an avenue where people can access information relevant to their needs. In addition, people in the community want to have a say in issues in the society. AWN is thus the people's voice.
Having worked in the security industry for many years, I feel the company can help in educating people, especially women and children about being more security conscious. I have a personal drive to make people more aware of their personal safety. Hence the security awareness workshop which I hope will be a quarterly program.
Working outside the UK to help the less privileged is my passion. Wealth distribution in many African countries cannot be said to be benefit the majority. Many are very poor and thus lack the wherewithal to achieve their dreams. I want to help to make this dreams happen. This however, can only be done with the generosity of well meaning people. The UK and indeed Wales have shown enormous generosity to the plight of the people around the world. AWN wants to make sure that your donations get to the people who so desperately need them. I feel that smaller organisations are better at reaching people who are in need. Large amount of donations are lost to administrative costs in larger organisations.
THE FOUR E'S
Enlighten – to give intellectual knowledge, to impart knowledge.
Educate – to develop the faculties and powers of a person by teaching, instruction or schooling.
Empower – to enable, to give power or authority
Eradicate – to remove, to destroy or erase
The four E's as depicted by the above picture come together to form a solid block/unit. This illustrates the belief of AWN that when in possession of proper information, a person is educated and empowered, and therefore able to eradicate poverty.
