Nigerians in Cardiff and Newport  UK held an award night to honour Nigerians and other eminent people from communities for amazing work they have done in Wales.

The award ceremony was held at the Mecure Hotel in Pentwyn. Guests arrived at the venue looking glamorous with many dressed in Nigerian traditional outfits. It was the first event of its kind, held in Cardiff, to honour those who had, in the course of their work or charitable deeds, impacted on the lives of Nigerians living in Cardiff, Newport and it's environs.

Amongst those honoured were business owners, entertainment, community organisations, health and food sectors. Also receiving an award was Neil McEvoy. Mr McEvoy is a Welsh nationalist politician, serving as leader of Propel since 2020, and a Cardiff Councillor for the Fairwater ward since 2008. Mr David Abuneke,  a businessman with interests in entertainment, Plumbing and gas. Ms Bekezela Nsingo, proprietor, Evoo Healthcare, Mr Glenn Edwards, photo journalist, Marie Djitche, founder of Le Mandela restaurant in Cardiff, Magnificent DJ Dot, an established international DJ from Wales known for Afrobeats, R&B, and Hip-Hop.

Mr Neil McEvoy, pictured above with MC, Sophie Odunaike, spoke about how Cardiff has always been a diverse city stating that this is something to be proud off. He spoke about his own grand father coming from Yemen and his mum who is from Cardiff docks which was then known as Tiger bay. McEvoy thanked the organisers for his awards telling attendees stating that its possibly for the "stuff he does on social media".

The guests were entertained by a cultural troupe and Magnificent DJ Dot. MC for the night, Sophie Bolanle Odunaike also known as Mama Posh entertained guests with stories and jokes. 

Glenn Edwards thanked the organisers for his awards telling attendees why he enjoys his work as a photographer. He said photography was all about creating images for the future adding that he loved his work and he pointed to what Presenter, Sophie Odunaike said earlier about doing something you are passionate about. He thanked everyone saying "its an award that means everything to me".

Africa Welsh News director was honoured with an honourary Award of Recognition. Other categories include most outstanding restuarant in Cardiff which was awarded to Le Mandela, Most outstanding Health Care outfit which went to Evoo Health Care. Most outstanding Business went to Glenn Edwards Photography. Most outstanding disc jockey was collected by DJ Dot.
